SAN PAOLO, 02 MAG - Il crollo parziale in Brasile ieri pomeriggio della diga '14 de Julho', situata fra le località di Cotiporã e Bento Gonçalves, nello stato di Rio Grande do Sul, a causa delle forti piogge, ha provocato la morte di almeno 29 persone, mentre ne mancano all'appello altre 60. L'informazione, riferisce il portale di notizie Uol, è stata confermata dal governo del Rio Grande do Sul, mentre il sindaco della località di Bento Gonçalves, Diogo Segabinazzi Siqueira, ha reso noto che le intense precipitazioni hanno generato un'onda alta due metri che si è abbattuta sulla zona, attraversando la comunità di Linha Alcântara, e avanzando verso i municipi di São Valentim do Sul e Santa Tereza. Da parte sua Artur Lemos, ministro dell'Interno di questo stato, ha dichiarato alla Cnn che "a crollare è stato il lato destro della diga, dove non si trovano le chiuse". L'obiettivo dei tecnici che si trovano sul posto, ha infine detto, "è riuscire ad aprire le chiuse, riducendo la pressione sulla diga", perché "se falliamo e la struttura collassa completamente, allora dovremo affrontare una quantità d'acqua molto maggiore".
